What a tray shrink wrapper does
A tray shrink wrapper helps contain products that are already supported by a tray or board. The tray improves pack stability, while the film provides containment and presentation after shrinking.
This route is used for bottles, cans, jars, tins, cartons, tubs and other grouped products where the pack needs support through handling or distribution.
Tray and film specification
The tray dimensions, product height and film type determine the sleeve sealer and tunnel requirements. A shallow tray may need more product control than a deep tray, and the film shrink must not distort the pack.
The tunnel should produce an even shrink finish around the tray without overheating the product or leaving loose film around the corners.
Selecting the machine route
Automatic tray shrink wrapping is suitable where packs are repeated and presented consistently. Semi-automatic routes can be appropriate for lower volumes, changeable pack sizes or manual collation.
If multiple tray sizes are used, changeover time and guide adjustment should be discussed before the quote is finalised.
Quote route and specification checklist
| Tray factor | Impact |
|---|---|
| Tray height | Controls product support and film coverage. |
| Pack weight | Affects conveyor and tunnel belt specification. |
| Corners | Influence shrink finish and film tension. |
| Changeovers | Determine guide adjustment and setup time. |
