Application engineering
Bottles, cans, trays, cartons and contract-packed bundles can all use a sleeve wrap, but they do not behave the same through collation, sealing and the shrink tunnel. The application review must consider how the products support one another, where the film can grip and whether the finished pack will remain stable during handling.
Round products can move during transfer and may need controlled guides, stable row formation and consistent spacing. Filled weight, base shape, cap or closure height and the chosen pack count influence collation and tunnel transport.
Tray flanges, corners and projecting edges can concentrate load in the film. Confirm whether the tray is sufficiently rigid, whether a pad is needed and whether heat could affect the tray, lidding film, label or product.
Frequent product and pack-count changes increase the importance of accessible guides, repeatable recipes or setting records, film change control and a clear acceptance sample for each approved format.
A tray or pad can add base support, protect product edges and improve handling, but it also changes pack height, heat response and film contact. A trayless bundle uses less secondary material but relies more heavily on product geometry, film strength and shrink control. Neither format should be selected from appearance alone; trial the intended lifting, transfer and stacking method after the pack has cooled.

Application compatibility questions
Application suitability depends on the product, support method, film, tunnel process and the condition required after cooling and handling.
Sometimes, but suitability must be established with the actual product, primary pack, labels, adhesives, tray or pad and the proposed tunnel process.
The trial should check product condition, container shape, seals, print, labels and any temperature-sensitive contents after the full heating, cooling and handling sequence. Tunnel settings should not be selected from film alone, and a different packaging route may be needed where acceptable exposure cannot be achieved.
Trayless wrapping may be possible when the bottles can be positively collated and supported through the wrapper, tunnel, cooling and discharge without losing their pattern.
Bottle base geometry, centre of gravity, surface friction, fill level, cap shape, bundle count and transfer gaps all influence stability. A clamp, guide, side-feed pusher, pad or tray may be required. Test the full line sequence rather than only holding a hand-made bundle together with film.

A mixed-product bundle can be assessed when the items form a repeatable, balanced group and the film does not concentrate damaging loads on the smaller or weaker component.
Record the orientation, weight distribution, protrusions, friction and height differences. The bundle should be trialled through collation, sealing, tunnel shrink, cooling and handling. Mixed packs that change composition from cycle to cycle may need a more controlled kitting or case-packing route.
