Why trays help sleeve sealing
A tray can keep products aligned as they move through the sleeve sealer and shrink tunnel. This is useful for bottles, cans, cartons, tubs and mixed product groups that would otherwise be unstable.
The tray also changes film presentation. The film must shrink around the product and tray without pulling the corners out of shape or leaving loose sides.
Machine and tunnel checks
The sleeve sealer needs enough jaw width and film width for the tray. The shrink tunnel needs enough aperture and heat control for the full pack height. Conveyor transfers need to protect the tray and stop product movement.
For repeated production, an automatic route may suit. For variable tray sizes, a semi-automatic or adjustable setup may be more practical.
Application examples
Tray sleeve sealing may be used for drink trays, jars, cartons, cans, tins and transit packs. The format is chosen where a tray improves handling, stacking or retail presentation.
Lancing can review the actual tray and product combination before advising on the suitable machinery route.
